National minimum wage to be increased from 1 October 2014

The UK National Minimum Wage rates from 1 October 2014, as recommended by the Low Pay Commission and approved by government, will be:

Adult Rate(21 years old and above) Development Rate(18 – 20 years old) Young Workers Rate(Aged under 18) Apprenticeship Rate(aged Under 19 or aged over 19 but in first year of apprenticeship)
£6.50 £5.13 £3.79 £2.73
Increase of 19 pence Increase of 10 pence Increase of 7 pence Increase of 5 pence

The National Minimum Wage is the minimum pay per hour workers are entitled to by law. Different minimum wage rates apply depending on the circumstances of the worker. Factors such as they employee’s age, the provision of accommodation, travel time and uniform hire can all affect how much a worker is owed and must be taken into account.
